As a native New Englander, I am thrilled to be the rabbi of Congregation Ahavas Achim in Keene, NH. The CAA community is vibrant, creative and welcoming. Because it is diverse demographically and religiously, we strive to build a home with enough rooms for every expression of Jewish identity, every kind of Jewish family and every stage of Jewish development. We do this with a commitment to egalitarianism. As the spiritual leader of Ahavas Achim, I have the privilege of being part of a community that nourishes the souls of each of its members, who then do their part individually and collectively to heal the world. Being here is truly a blessing.

In addition to being a congregational rabbi, I am also a chaplain and an educator. Before coming to Keene in July 2020, I was in Houston, TX, working for a wide range of institutions including Congregation Or Ami, Temple Beth Torah, Texas A&M Hillel, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and others. In Houston I also lead children’s Shabbat services at Congregation Brith Shalom, provided rabbinic support to Kol HaLev, Houston’s Reconstructionist havurah, volunteered for Jewish Family Service and spoke out on behalf of workers’ rights for the Interfaith Worker Center.

Beyond Houston and Keene, though, I’ve been privileged to serve as the rabbi at Temple Beth Sholom in Salem, OR, director of congregational learning at Ohev Shalom of Bucks County in Richboro, PA, director of annual giving and special events and dean of admissions and recruitment at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Wyncote, PA, and assistant director of the Brown-RISD Hillel Foundation in Providence, RI. 

I am especially excited about teaching Bibliodrama, a form of Torah study that asks participants to step into the shoes of our biblical ancestors and personalize their stories. In fact, I was fortunate to study with the founders of Bibliodrama, Dr. Peter and Susan Pitzele.

A perpetual student and an alumnus of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship, I hold degrees from Brown University (AB in Judaic Studies), Brandeis University (MA in Jewish Communal Service), the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College (MHL and Rabbinic Ordination) and the Davidson School of Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary (MA in Jewish Education).

I was born and raised in Portland, ME, where my parents and mother-in-law still live. Now I live just a few hours away with my wife Beth, our daughter Katie, two cats, two geckos and, one day, a dog. Out of sight but not out of mind is my son Jacob, who is an engineer and will soon live in Denver.
